RUSH FAQs
Is Alpha Kappa Psi only for male prospects?
No, all genders are welcome and encouraged to rush Alpha Kappa Psi. Despite its title as a fraternity, Alpha Kappa Psi has been a co-ed business organization since 1973.
Are there requirements to rush?
Rushes must have at least a 3.0 GPA to be eligible for a bid. In addition, each rush must attend the minimum number of rush events; two open rush, a first round interview, one closed rush (invitation only), and a second round interview.
Is Alpha Kappa Psi only for business-oriented majors?
Not at all! Our chapter includes students majoring in business, engineering, communication arts, political science, computer science, non-profit leadership and more.
Do I need to attend all rush events?
No. Only two open rush events are required, in addition to a first round interview. If invited back for closed rush, only one event is required, as well as a second round interview. Although it is not required to attend all events, it is HIGHLY encouraged as it offers us more of a chance to get to know you.
If I don't get a bid from Alpha Kappa Psi the first time, can I rush again?
Yes, we encourage you to do so! It is highly encouraged that a rush candidate apply again if he or she did not receive a bid the first time. Determination and personal refinement are valued traits in rush candidates. In fact, a large portion of our current members did not get in on their first attempt.
Is there a specific type of dress required for me to wear to each rush event?
Student casual dress is appropriate for open and closed rush events. Business professional dress is required for both first and second round interviews.
What is rush?
Rush is a series of events over two consecutive weeks to allow potential rushees the opportunity to learn more about Alpha Kappa Psi while in turn allowing the members of Alpha Mu to learn more about interested candidates.
Am I able to rush if I am completely remote this semester?
Absolutely! Like last semester, our rush process and pledgeship will be completely virtual this upcoming semester. We highly encourage those taking their classes from home to participate in rush. Taking classes from home will have no influence on your acceptance into the fraternity.
Can I join Alpha Kappa Psi if I am also in a social fraternity or sorority?
Yes. A number of our members are involved in Greek organizations on campus. However, it is important to keep in mind that Alpha Kappa Psi is a significant time commitment, especially during pledgeship. We encourage you to use the Rush process as an opportunity to ask members about their experiences balancing other student organizations.
What will an online pledgeship look like?
Our members can't wait to meet our new Spring 2021 pledge class, and we will work hard to make pledgeship as fulfilling as possible. We have a great semester planned with opportunities for pledges to develop in their professionalism, give back to the community, and immerse themselves into our brotherhood.
Who can I contact for accesibility/technology related concerns?
We are happy to work with all to address any accesibility or technology concerns. Feel free to reach out to our Information Systems Chair Lauren Gunderson at legunderson2@wisc.edu or our VP of Membership Suzy Dawood at sdawood@wisc.edu with any questions or concerns.
